Peoria (May 11, 2026) — Maricopa County Sheriff Jerry Sheridan announced today his endorsement of Vice Mayor Michael Finn in his campaign for Mayor of Peoria, pointing to Finn’s longstanding support for law enforcement and his focus on maintaining safe communities.

Sheridan, a more than 40-year veteran of law enforcement and the elected Sheriff of Maricopa County, cited Finn’s longstanding commitment to public safety and support for law enforcement professionals as key reasons for his endorsement. The support adds to Finn’s growing coalition of public safety leaders and organizations backing his campaign.

“After more than four decades in law enforcement, I’ve seen firsthand what it takes to keep communities safe—and it starts with leaders who are willing to stand firm on public safety. Michael Finn understands that protecting our residents means supporting law enforcement, enforcing the law, and ensuring criminals are held accountable,” stated Sheriff Sheridan. “He has demonstrated a clear commitment to maintaining safe neighborhoods and backing the men and women who put their lives on the line every day. I support Michael Finn for Mayor because I know he will prioritize public safety and uphold the standards that keep Peoria a strong and secure community.”

Finn said the endorsement reflects the shared commitment between city leaders and law enforcement professionals to keep Peoria one of the safest communities in Arizona.

“Sheriff Sheridan has spent his career on the front lines of public safety and understands the importance of leadership that supports law enforcement and prioritizes community safety,” said Vice Mayor Finn. “I appreciate his confidence in my campaign and his recognition of the work we’ve done in Peoria to maintain safe neighborhoods and a strong quality of life.”

Finn added that as Peoria continues to grow, city leadership must remain proactive in supporting public safety services and maintaining strong coordination between agencies.

“Peoria works closely with the Sheriff’s Office in a number of areas, including around Lake Pleasant where coordination between agencies is critical to public safety,” Finn said. “We also have several county island communities throughout the city that require strong communication, cooperation, and collaboration with the Sheriff’s Office to ensure residents receive the high level of service and protection they deserve.”

Throughout his time on the Peoria City Council, Finn has consistently supported investments in police, fire, and emergency response services while working to strengthen collaboration between local and regional public safety partners.

Finn concluded, “Peoria’s success depends on maintaining the trust and safety that families and businesses rely on every day. I will continue working to ensure our city remains safe, secure, and prepared for the future.”
